Root & Branch: Outside the Synod Zoom, Thurs 14 Nov @ 8.00pm

14th November, 8pm London time
Come and join us to find out
Why are we OUTSIDE THE SYNOD?

“The main protagonist of the Synod is the Holy Spirit,” says Pope Francis.

We hope, pray, and trust that she is. We trust! But meanwhile, we ask;
Why were these issues -women’s ordination to the diaconate and priesthood married priests, and ministry to LGBTQ Catholics taken off the Synod table? It is clear that these are what the faithful see as key matters, and have done since the outset. See our R&B 2022 analysis here. So we felt betrayed and saddened, before this final  October 2024 Synodal session at the Vatican, when Pope Francis summarily removed  such vital aspects from discussion. They were relegated to study groups, whose membership we’re still not clear about. Catholic reform groups from every continent were in Rome throughout October, to express what was so clearly being suppressed.T hey were conspicuous, creative, courageous, and prayerful.

Above, WOC and WOW, Women’s Ordination Conference, and Women’s Ordination Worldwide, protest outside Castel Sant’ Angelo against the kicking of the can – yet again! – down the road

Below, Root & Brancher Geoffrey Thompson echoes Roman Catholic Woman Priest Angela Meyer’s question, and Miriam Duignan delivers Wijngaards’ Synodal Petition to Request the Reinstatement of the Ordained Diaconate for Women to Pope Francis himself (not the easiest of tasks).
R&B Core team are delighted that Miriam and Geoffrey, along with Colm Holmes, We Are Church Ireland (below right), will join Rhiannon Parry Thompson, Core Team R&B (below left) to describe it all to us. Other key players to be announced shortly.

Hands up if you wished you could have been there. Here’s the next best thing. Join us for the debrief conversation:How do we use our collective imagination, our gifts and our networks to let the church know that these issues, though off the Synod table, remain alive, urgent and increasingly demanded by the 97%, the laity?
