Massimo Faggioli appointed to TCD

And a note to the ACP from a colleague:

You are no doubt familiar with the work of Prof. Massimo Faggioli, hitherto of Villanova University. You may also be aware of his appointment to the faculty of the Loyola Institute at Trinity College Dublin, which has just been announced.

It is in one sense a sad loss for American Catholics. But we are all in permanent instantaneous contact with one another through our computers, so physical location is less important now than it once was. Prof. Faggioli will continue to be an important voice in public discourse concerning the Church in our country, which unfortunately suffers from poor clerical leadership.

As a scholar of the history and present circumstances of the Catholic Church in the USA and Europe and an occasional guest in your country, he is already familiar with the predicament of the Church in Ireland. He will have much to contribute to the efforts to put it on the right track.

I hope that Ireland will welcome Prof. Faggioli, including by helping the Faggioli family as they face the practical challenges of their move from Philadelphia to Dublin.
