Brendan Hoban shows that within 20 years a tiny cadre of aged priests
will be struggling to say Masses in a tiny complement of churches. He believes a fundamental re-think on priesthood is required (first published in the Western People)
Brian Fahy reflects on how a life well lived affects us not just during the person’s life but long after they have departed this world.
With acknowledgement to the Western People, this is Brendan Hoban’s reflection on the great gathering last Monday in Dublin’s Regency Hotel: ‘Towards an Assembly of the Irish Church’. Brendan is a member of the ACP’s Leadership team.
Brian Fahy muses on what has changed in church, and what church should be … “A place that gathers you in to bless you and encourage you, and that then points out the road to you, the road of your life that you are encouraged to walk, until you reach God’s holy mountain.
We need a Church like that, to gather us in, to fire our hearts and to set us on our way.”
Timothy Radcliffe OP sees in Pope Francis’ interview ‘a new way of being Church’. This implies that the pope ceases to be a monarch and becomes again the Bishop of Rome (first published in America, 30 September 2013).
The U.S. Secret Service kept Pope Francis safe during his recent travels in the U.S.A., even if some think their methods a little over enthusiastic for a man who prefers to travel in a small Fiat rather than an armoured SUV.
Seamus Ahearne suggests that maybe we now need to protect him from our need for a jamboree by expecting him to attend the Congress on the Family for 2018.
Seamus thinks Francis’ time is precious and “I would much prefer that we respect the age of Pope Francis and conserve his energy and reduce his trips abroad. We should be caring for him and protecting him …We need to keep him at home and let him do as much as he can, in enlivening the Church.”

Is anybody interested in the synod anymore?
Well, Joe the members of the ACI are praying for a “Girardian” society on their site which would make this synod seem less important or unnecessary, I believe.
