Chris McDonnell: A Scattering of Cloud

A scattering of cloud

Sirens scream the background melody

to a deadly dance of war.

Rolling heaviness of smoke hides the broken

remains of buildings shattered by explosion.

Above, blue sky cradles a scattering of cloud

tracing the shrouded face of Christ, silently

gazing, wordless, from the resting place borrowed

from another Jew for three short days.

A touching place of pain and tears

the cradled fears of broken, anguished faces

hold little hope of relief as each passing hour

increases the rising litany of grief.
