Thirty five Kilmore priests attend ACP information meeting

An information meeting about the ACP took place in Cavan on Thursday, June 7th. It was attended by about 35 priests of the diocese, and by Brendan Hoban and Tony Flannery of the Leadership Team.  It was organised by Gerry Alwill. It lasted from 2.30pm to 4.00pm.
It was a very interesting and constructive meeting, covering a wide range of topics. Brendan Hoban gave a short account of the history of the Association, and the main issues it has dealt with since its foundation. There was a very positive response from all the speakers.  Particular frustration was expressed about the New Missal, and some wondered if there was anything the ACP could do now about it.  Other issues raised included the implementation of Vatican II, our relationship with the bishops and the Papal Nuncio, and the recent development of a lay association and what should our attitude be to that group.
Twelve new members signed up at the end of the meeting. It was agreed that another meeting would take place in the autumn, which would, among other things, decide who would act in a leadership position for the ACP in the diocese.

    This is a very positive development – especially as the most recent report from ACP-Clogher seemed to resile a little from the earlier reports of the many Clones meetings from Fr Jimmy McPhillips. Now maybe Armagh, Dromore, Down & Connor, Derry and Raphoe will clamber aboard. Even Ian Paisley didn’t keep saying ‘Ulster says NO’ forever!
