Bidding Prayers for 12 March (Third Sunday of Lent)

BIDDING PRAYERS for Sunday Mass on 12 March

Introduction (by the Presider)  Let us come before the Lord, bringing forward all our needs:

  1. For everyone who is baptised, that this Lent we may renew our faith (pause for five seconds). Lord, hear us
  2. For adults and children preparing for baptism this Easter (pause for five seconds). Lord, hear us.
  3. For Pope Francis, who marks ten years as our pope on Monday (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us.
  4. For all who thirst for meaning and truth, that God may with them (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us
  5. For poor nations, where water is scarce, that the rich may help the poor (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us.
  6. For this community, especially people who are sick or troubled (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us.

The Presider prays for the dead remembering especially Bishop Dave O’Connell, from Cork whose funeral has taken place in LA: For those who have gone before us in faith (especially N.& N. who died recently and N. & N. whose anniversaries occur), that their thirst for life without end may be satisfied (pause for quiet prayer)  Lord, hear us.

Conclusion (by the Presider)  O God, we are yours, you lead us by the hand: send the help we need, we pray, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eating Together, Becoming One by Thomas O’Loughlin has won First Place in the “Ecumenism or Interfaith Relations” category in the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada’s 2020 Book Awards. We extend our congratulations to Tom.

Pope Francis called on theologians to explore whether Catholic practice should be changed to allow Christians, belonging to other churches, to share fully at the table when they take part in a eucharist celebrated by Catholics. Thomas O’Loughlin argues that the various ways of thinking about what we are doing in the liturgy should lead us to see intercommunion as enhancing our participation in the mystery of the church and the mystery we celebrate.
