Edinburgh Newman Association meeting

The next meeting of our Edinburgh Newman Association is on Monday evening next, April 15th at 7.30pm at our usual venue, Mayfield/Salisbury Church of Scotland, 18 West Mayield, Edinburgh EH9 1TQ.

Our guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Scott McKenna who will speak on the origins of the Bible.

The title of Scott’s lecture is “The Bible. A Mosaic”

This is a cordial invitation to the meeting and please also convey this invitation to anyone you think would wish to attend.

The introduction says, “Francis received in audience the Cardinals and the Superiors of the Roman Curia for Christmas greetings.” Francis mentions “brothers and sisters” at the beginning!

Mattie Long reflects on the open letter Gerald O’Collins S.J. wrote to English speaking bishops concerning the continued use of the “new” missal. Added to this letter are the comments of Pope Francis on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the celebration of the first vernacular Mass celebrated by Pope Paul VI in 1965.
Mattie draws on James Dallen’s ‘What Kind of Ecclesiology?’ to question the purpose of the ‘new’ missal.
