Having recently read Brendan’s excellent book, “Holding out for a Hero” and his description of the despair when it became obvious that the very conservative, autocratic John Paul II was intent on abandoning the ideals of Vatican II and returning our church to the nineteenth century, one of the former priests on last nights program “The Last Priests” summed it up so well when he said that with Wojtyla in Rome we were on a train in reverse gear heading back into the last century.
