This, the last of our regional meetings before the New Year, was one of the most vibrant ACP meeting that I have attended. There was a sense that people felt they were free to say it as they experienced it, and that led to a very interesting and stimulating exchange of views.

Today is Pentecost Sunday, the 50th day of Easter. We celebrate the completion of the Easter mystery in the coming of the Holy Spirit — and ask for the gift of that same Spirit as we gather today.

The New York Times profiles Father Helmut Schüller, the ‘mild but rebellious priest’ who was part of the 2011 ‘Appeal to Disobedience’ by 400 priests in Austria. This initiative began with a small group of priests, talking about the problems faced by their parishes, about the lack of successors to take their places, and about the fusing of congregations.
