Meeting of Leadership Team of ACP

A meeting of the leadership of the ACP took place in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone today, May 5th.
Among the items discussed was this year’s AGM, a survey on the New Missal commissioned by the ACP and the upcoming meeting with representatives of the Irish Bishops’  Commissions on the Liturgy, Clergy and Vocations.
1. The Annual General meeting of the ACP for 2014 will take place on Wednesday, October 1st in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
The theme is: Priestless Parishes: what Pope Francis needs to be told.
It will examine the present crisis in priest numbers as well as current strategies for maintaining access to the Eucharist, and suggest some alternatives.
2.  The results of a professional survey, commissioned by the ACP, of priests’ attitudes to the New Missal has just arrived on our desk, and we discussed how best to launch the findings. We decided to hold a press conference in Dublin in the next few weeks.
Final details will be announced later.
3.  The meeting with representatives of the Irish Bishops’ Commissions, expected to take place before the summer, was discussed, and the ACP delegation decided.
4. There are plans to have a meeting of an international network of reform movements from around the world in Ireland in about a years time. The ACP will host and sponsor this meeting. Further details of this meeting will be announced as they become available.
5. Tony Flannery, who recently retired from leadership of the association, was thanked for his contribution over the past five years.
The Leadership Team now consists of:  Seamus Ahearne, Gerry O’Connor, Sean McDonagh, Gerry Alwill, Brendan Hoban.

    I willl be hoping your group will have the honesty to tell Pope Francis the real situation about the shortage of priests.
    Our weekend mass is fast becoming a lost experience – yet we are still being asked to pay our weekly collection.
    Only when we stop paying, I believe, will the leaders stand up and start leading.
    So very sad.
