Request from some priests out of ministry

A small number of us priests who are out of ministry because of boundary issues realise that we can get through the sense of isolation and exclusion by being companions to each other.
If you are in a similar situation and experience a need for support or companionship, we invite you to contact the ACP to express your interest, so that we develop further a model of support that meets our needs.
Anybody who wishes to pursue this matter can either contact one of the leadership team, or email the website.

Regency Hotel: Monday, May 7th; 10.30am to 4.30pm

(Under the auspices of the Association of Catholic Priests)

First Session: Naming the Reality.

  • There will be four speakers giving short input.
  • Followed by a general forum.

Tea/Coffee Break

Second Session: The Vision

  • Three speakers outlining their vision for the Church.
  • Followed by general forum.

Break for Lunch (available in the hotel)

Third Session: Where to from here.

A presentation of a statement, coming out of the morning sessions. This might contain something like the following:

  • A call for a new model of Church
  • Calling lay groups to work together to make this model a reality
  • Asking that this process continue towards a full assembly of the Irish Church.
  • This presentation will be followed by a general forum which, hopefully, will shape the final document.

This gathering is open to all, lay and clergy. At some suitable time during the day there will be an opportunity for lay groups and individuals to gather, with a view to looking at the possibility of forming some type of lay ‘umbrella group’ comprising of existing groups and interested individuals.

If you are planning to attend we ask you to register on this website, so that we will know how many are coming.

There is no charge for attendance, but lunch will be at you own expense.

 

Report from Clogher diocesan ACP

This is a very interesting and encouraging development in Clogher.  As you can see from the report, they are really facing the issues and problems that all of us as priests are confronted with. We, the leadership, would love if other dioceses could maybe take a lead from this, and begin to organise similar type meetings. I am aware that such discussion is probably done best at local level, but if anyone could come up with how we might pursue these agendas at a national level we would love to hear from them.  The organiser of the ACP in Clogher is Jimmy McPhillips.  I am sure Jimmy would be more than happy to give advice to any other group wishing to follow their lead.

Priests out of ministry meeting together for support and solidarity looks like a good idea;its a dark and loenly place to be especially when there’s little or no hope of returning to ministry with the present draconian procedures and protocol. I was asked to withdraw from ministry on May 19th 2011 and I found myself in a daze, not able to think straight and not knowing where to turn. On RTE PRIME TIME INVESTIGATES May 23rd 2011 I was falsely accused of ‘having sexual relations with a teenage house maid in rural Kenya around 1982, making her pregnant, fathering her child, concealing the fact and leaving my position because of it’. I am suing RTE in the High Court thanks to the ACP.
