We Are Church: Link to Synod Symposium Zoom on 15 Nov

Our Synod Symposium on 15 November 2024 had 4 excellent speakers:

  • Penelope Middelboe
  • Diarmuid O’Murchu
  • Julieann Moran
  • Tom O’Loughlin

They made some interesting points:

* Cynical exercise poorly conceived

* Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas

* What is new in this supposedly new assembly?

* Next year the clergy and bishops should stay out of the meeting completely

* Round tables have stolen the show

* Proud that Ireland reported authentically

* If the Synod Synthesis is a thermometer, then the patient is very ill and very poorly informed

* To pray for vocations is to invoke a Calvinist sacramentality

Reflecting on his life’s experiences Brian Fahy reminds us how so many people who were strong and experienced in so many theatres of life were reduced to silence simply by the fact that the Church loomed too large in its authority.
“Let us encourage one another to speak and say how we feel and not allow the often, unconscious forces of power to suppress or stifle the truth that needs to be said and heard.”
