19th Sunday in Ordinary Time, 11 August (Presider’s Page)
Opening Comment (for the Presider)
We are challenged by today’s Gospel to stand ready for our Master’s return in glory. We gather to worship God who sustains us all the days of our life, and beyond. Penitential Rite: To prepare ourselves for this celebration, let us call to mind our sins: (pause) Lord Jesus, you raise us to new life: Lord, have mercy. Lord Jesus, you forgive us our sins: Christ, have mercy. Lord Jesus, you feed us with your body and blood: Lord, have mercy.
Introduction to the Scripture Readings (for Ministers of the Word)
Wisdom 18: 6-9 These are some of the words used by the Jews to celebrate God’s deliverance of them at Passover.
Hebrews 11: 1-2, 8-19 For the next few weeks, the second reading is from the Letter to the Hebrews, which is more a sermon on who Christ is, rather than a letter. In today’s section, Abraham and Sarah are held up as examples of faith.
Luke 12; 32-48 Stand ready, we are told, for we do not know when Christ will return.
BIDDING PRAYERS

- For all who strive to do what is right, that they may be aware of the shortness of life, and do their best each day (pause). Lord, hear us.
- For those on holidays, in this country or abroad, that they may be preserved from danger and enjoy restful times (pause). Lord, hear us.
- For people for whom life is difficult, that God’s grace may sustain them (pause). Lord, hear us.
The presider prays for the dead, those who died during the weekand those whose anniversaries occur (and the person/people for whom Mass is offered): For all who have left this world behind (especially N. and N.) that the Lord may rescue them and bring them safely home (pause) Lord, hear us.
