As we gather on this Summer Sunday, we are challenged to be hospitable, welcoming people. We worship the God who always has a welcome for us.
The end of this year and the beginning of the Advent season is coming closer, and the Liturgy invites us to look further into the future, towards the end of time, to be ready when the Day of the Lord comes.

United with Christians all over the world, we acknowledge one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God as our Father. We worship as one family, and pray for greater charity and love among all the baptised.

Mary O. Vallely reflects on her reecent experience of a christening in Scotland, where she was saddened by the lack of real welcome for the newly baptised babies and their parents. She appeals to priests to make real, warm, loving connections with their congregations, adding that a smile — or a nod of warmth, a handshake with eye-to-eye contact, a pat on the back or a hug — are all marks of Christ.
The beautiful story of the Good Samaritan is told again at today’s Mass, with its challenge to us to look after others, as the Good Samaritan did. We gather to worship God who showed us what love means.
