︎Farewell to Ludmila Javorová, the banned priest of Brno and symbol of a vocation that Rome did not recognize.

Ludmila Javorová has died at the age of 94 in a hospice in Rajhrad, Czech Republic . 

With her passing, one of the most unique, courageous, and controversial figures of 20th-century European Catholicism is lost: a woman of the underground Church under communism, a close collaborator of Bishop Felix Maria Davídek, and a priest secretly ordained to minister to women imprisoned by the regime.

Ludmila Javorová died without seeing the conflict that marked her life resolved. She died without public sacramental recognition of the ordination that had defined her path. But she did not die defeated. 

She leaves behind the legacy of a woman who remained faithful under totalitarianism, who betrayed no one, who stood with those whom the regime sought to render invisible, and who remained in the Church even when the Church asked her to renounce the ministry to which she knew she was called. 

For this reason, her life continues to challenge the Church not to be afraid to listen to its women.
