Séamus Ahearne: On the road again…
THE GOBÁN SAOR AND HIS SON: SHORTEN THE ROAD.
I drove down to Dungarvan yesterday (25th October). My sister is in a Nursing Home. The body creaks after the double journey. I do accept that doing such travelling is too much for an ancient. But I did have company on the way which was like the Gobán Saor Story with his son. The journey was shortened.
The colour of the leaves was really beautiful. The whole message of letting go, was telling.
The Radio also was rather special. That other old man does a great job, John Bowman – From the Archives. I was regaled by Edna O’Brien and her many stories. She even had John McCormack singing BLESS THIS HOUSE. I thoroughly enjoyed this programme, and the road seemed shorter. I don’t want to miss the next part of the story, which will be on for the coming Sunday, but probably will have to.
My travelling continued with Sunday Miscellany. That too is a wonderful programme which I seldom hear. We do have a great gift in such programmes. The Storytelling is uplifting and an inspiration. There is such a hunger for poetry and story in the human spirit.
My visit to the Nursing Home was lovely. My sister was in very good form. It had been too long since I managed to get to her. I turned the car around then, and drove back.
I did try Lyric FM as a companion. It is usually excellent but I wasn’t too receptive. The leaves continued to intrigue me. I wrote an article instead, as I drove along.
Today brought different news. My poor sister went wandering during the night and was found on the ground outside. She is okay. But it is very worrying. Those visits to the Nursing Homes – always stirs up humbling thoughts. Gratitude for what we have. Praise for the Staff. Concern lest that is our future too.
Serbia’s veteran ruler Vučić concedes election to the students
The students did dream. They did persist. And they won. The hope is that they can somehow provide a new Government, and a better one. But politics is very difficult. And politicians have an extremely difficult life. People (the electorate) have Great Expectations and wallow in Entitlement. Who can ever satisfy those cravings? However, it is worth recalling what Cardinal Leon Joseph Suenens said:
“Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.”
The Young Ones – Cliff Richards and the Shadows. (Could have inspired them!)
Young dreams, Should be dreamed together
And the young hearts shouldn’t be afraid
And some day when (while) the years have flown
Darling, then we’ll teach the young ones of our own
BRAZIL HAS A RESULT:
Flavio Bolsonaro: 59,826,041
Flavio Bolsonaro, like his father before him, is unwilling to accept the Result. Someone else tried that one too. Trump got elected eventually. Flavio can but hope, that his day will come also. Lula is 81. These old fellows can’t go on forever! Some of us think we can. Young Trump is 80 and shows signs of losing it. But then he always showed such signs.
Shalom
