The support group for Priests and Religious out of Ministry is now up and running. The first meeting of the Support Group will take place on February 2nd, 2013. Priests and Religious may access more information about this meeting by phoning one of the organisers of the meeting at 085 8607144

A number of regional meetings for priests are being arranged by the ACP.
The first of these will be held in the MacWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, Co Mayo on Wednesday, 08 March at 2.00pm.
All priests of Killala, Elphin, Achonry and Tuam dioceses are invited to attend.

Update:
A meeting for the Southern Region has been scheduled for 15 March in The Parish Centre, Ovens from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Pádraig McCarthy notes the extreme inequality now visible in Irish society, where 1,200 people died as a result of fuel poverty last winter, yet the nation’s 300 wealthiest individuals saw their wealth increase massively in 2012. He finds church leaders almost silent on the matter and asks if the ACP should take it up, in line with the our consitiution.

The New York Times carries an interesting article about a study that examines child sexual abuse worldwide in the Roman Catholic Church that has found the Australian church has done less to safeguard children in its care than its counterparts in similar countries have.

The report, released on Wednesday by the Center for Global Research at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, also found that the church’s requirement that priests be celibate was a major risk factor for abuse.

  1. Well done and good luck with this – and may those good men/women get that help and support they so desperately need. If really successful might initiate another level of support for others in our Church community who might wish some affirmation and support also, in differing contexts.
    Good for you and hope men, and women are making use of the call.
