ACI and ACP member Ger Gleeson has died

The death took place on Tuesday 12 November, after a short illness, of Mr. Ger Gleeson, Clonlara, Co Clare. Ger, a native of Limerick, was a member and supporter of the ACP and the ACI, attended many of its meeting and gatherings, and commented regularly on many topics and issues on the ACP website.  A man of lovely compassion, someone who had great time for, and gave great support to, the Redemptorists. The Redemptorist Church at Mount St. Alphonsus was one of his favourite places to visit… he loved it. May his soul now rest in peace, and our deepest sympathies to his family.

My sympathy to Teresa and his family. He was such a decent man

  2. I am so sad to hear this news tonight. Ger and I got to know each other through this ACP site where our views and opinions usually concurred. We then met last November in the Regency and we have kept in regular contact by e-mail since then. We were looking forward to catching up on Friday evening in the Regency. Ger was such a lovely, sincere man and I would like to send his wife and family our sincere sympathy from my wife Fiona and myself.
May his soul rest in peace.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear this news. I had the great privilege of meeting Ger last year in The Regency (he insisted on buying us all a drink, I remember) and was bowled over by his passion for his faith and his deep, deep love for his wife and family. He was never afraid to speak out against injustice. I am so very sorry to hear this news. My heart goes out to the Gleeson family at the loss of a loving and loyal husband and father. 4. It was with great sadness that I read of the passing of Ger Gleeson. He is now St. Ger Gleeson and I already look to him as an intercessor with Christ to assist the renewal of the Irish Church. I will remember him as the one who consistently told us…”Jesus weeps”, and while we will weep for Ger…we know…that He is experiencing everlasting Joy….

I am very sorry to hear the sad news. May Ger rest at peace.

  7. I also wish to extend my condolences to all Ger’s loved ones. I met him briefly at the Regency Hotel last year. I always read his contributions on this website with interest; he was always passionate about this dysfunctional family of a church of ours and wanted to support its development and reform with every fibre of his being.
I’m just shocked that he’s no longer with us.

    Ger
    Where can I start,
I know that you had a generous heart
Courage you gave, as you put pen to page
We never met, but I call you friend
    As me you did defend
No quivering lip, you fired from the hip
Your heart was as mine, many a time
Courage you knew, I know this to be true
You spoke from the heart, to lighten the dark
    As your new dawn breaks
Surely you will reflect His face
    kevin your brother
    In Christ

Very sorry to hear of the death of Ger Gleeson and I will remember him in my prayers. Deepest sympathies to his family.
We were most often on opposing sides of debates on this site and Ger was never lukewarm on his views on the Church and he obviously had strong convictions regarding religion.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

So sad to hear of the passing of such a faithful contributor to this website. The internet has a way of making the world small again; you know this when you can feel a sense of sorrow when someone you didn’t personally know or haven’t ever met, passes. May he rest in peace.

  12. This is Sarah Gleeson, Ger’s daughter. I would like to thank everyone so much for their lovely comments about Daddy. He was a truly amazing man and I loved him with all my heart. My mother, brother and I really appreciate the above comments. He loved being an active member of this site. He was devoted to his faith (his own catchphrase was ‘Keep the Faith’).
    God Bless.
    With love,
    Sarah. x
