Wednesday in the Second Week of Easter

    A Matter-of-fact approach

The Scriptures present two aspects of our salvation. On one side we are told about forces at war with the ways of the Lord. Peter and John are caught in a struggle that involves the high priest and the entire Sanhedrin. They are arrested by the temple guards and imprisoned. This same struggle at universal level is echoed in John’s gospel about God’s sending

    An ideal, united community?

Today’s Scriptures present us with the question of whether and how a fair sharing of property can be achieved within the church. We see how, at least for a while, the early Christians at Jerusalem pooled all their resources, and there was no one in financial distress. Later, however, their destitution was

The Spirit shakes at our roots

When and where the Spirit comes upon a person, with what signs and consequences, cannot be determined ahead of time. “The wind blows where it will…. You do not know where it comes from or where it goes.” In both Hebrew (ruah) and Greek (pneuma)

    Second Sunday of Easter

    Theme

Sharing, at various levels, emerges as a linking theme in today’s Scriptures. The earliest generation of christians were a sort of consecrated commune, with total sharing of all that they had. Their Eucharist was just the high-point of an already deep union, like an extended family, where each individual worked for the good of the family as much as for his own. Then from Peter we hear of the shared joy and faith of that first group of Christians. And in the story of Thomas we find that even a sharing of doubt can be healthy for the community….

Second Sunday of Easter – Liturgy Preparation

Even though a week has passed since Easter Sunday, today’s liturgy is still filled with good news. We praise God for the life and love poured out for us in the raising of Jesus, which makes divine mercy possible — and available to all.

    Easter Saturday

    The courage to trust him

The Sanhedrin, the supreme ruling body of Judaism, found it impossible to consider that Jesus could be the Messiah, and that he had really risen from the dead. To believe in him would demand a major change in the whole furniture of their belief-system; nothing less than a total reinterpretation of their Scripture and cherished traditions.

    Easter Friday

    Hauling in the Net

The apostles went back to where they started, to Galilee, where they continued their work as fishermen. But their lives had been transformed by their contact with Jesus, and when they met him by the lakeshore, they recognised him, hauled in the net at his advice, and heard his guidance for their future, building on the past.

    Easter Thursday

Clothed with Power from on High

Peter shares his conviction that Jesus was the fulfilment of all that the Jews had hoped, over many centuries: “All the prophets have announced the events of these days.” This echoes what Jesus himself said on the evening of Easter day, “Everything written about me in Moses and the prophets had to be fulfilled.”

    Easter Wednesday

    Powerful, after his death

The Emmaus story offers an inspiring model or paradigm for disciples of every age: if we travel the journey with each other, sharing our faith in Christ, he will be with us, to open our minds to the truth. Just as he brought them to deeper understanding, so he does for all who listen to him. His promise remains, “I am with you, always!”

Coming to know the Risen One

The fascination of the Easter story is largely due to the sense of gradual recognition of the risen Jesus, by his closest friends and followers. John’s vivid account of Magdalene challenging the gardener to hand back the body of Jesus conveys some sense of their stupor and confusion. ..

    Different stories about Resurrection

Our Scriptures describe the miracle and mystery of our Lord’s dying and rising in many and varied ways. As Peter’s sermon on that first Pentecost was addressed to an international group of Jews, all conscious of their Jewish identity, he sets Jesus within the larger framework of Jewish history…

    Easter Sunday

    Theme

When Christ broke the death-barrier on the first Easter morning, he did so as our Saviour, for all of us. He opens up the gateway and prepares for us a highway to the loving presence of God. So we often proclaim, “Dying, he destroyed our death; by rising he restored our life.” This Easter message is at the very centre of our Christian faith. Today’s Scriptures offer an experiential account of this new life, from the lived experience of Peter, Paul and the Beloved Disciple.

    Easter Sunday – Liturgy Preparation

On Easter morning the Christian family celebrates the central mystery of  faith, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. He suffered on the cross and died for us, but now he is risen! Filled with the spirit of Easter joy, Christians proclaim the might and glory of God.

    Easter Vigil – Liturgy Preparation

At the Easter Vigil, we gather around the Easter candle, inspired by its light and heated by the Spirit of God, celebrating the Lord’s resurrection. With that light to illumine our way, we remember how God has cared for humanity from the dawn of time. The readings read this night remind us what happened at the highpoints of our history.

    Good Friday

    It is Consummated

Were you there when they crucified my Lord? … In the words of that haunting song, sometimes it does indeed cause me to tremble…. when I hear those words from the cross, “It is Consummated!” Consummated – completed – achieved to the last degree – engraved forever on the memory of mankind. “I have come to seek and to save what was lost…. The Son of Man came, not to be served but to serve.”

    Feast of The Lord’s Supper

Holy Week is focussed on the central mysteries of our Christian faith. Beginning the Sacred Triduum with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, we highlight the gift of the Eucharist re-presenting the Lord’s Paschal Mystery, the very heart of the Church’s existence…

    Holy Thursday – Liturgy preparation

The liturgy that begins at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper continues until Easter begins. At the Mass, we are at the start of a three-day celebration of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. We journey from the Last Supper to Gethsemane the first night, from there to Calvary on the second day, and from the tomb to resurrection and new life on the third day, which ends with the Vigil of Easter Sunday.

    Saved from Fear and Shame

When Isaiah says, “I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard,” he’s talking about that same place. It was usual in Isaiah’s day for Hebrew men to wear full beards, and pulling out a beard, besides being quite painful, was an attack on a man’s dignity.

Holy Week Penance Service – Liturgy Preparation

This liturgy, for use in parishes in Holy Week, is a celebration of God’s forgiveness, and of our reconciliation with God and one another. The service has four parts. After a brief introduction (the first part), people listen to God’s word and reflect on it. Then all  celebrate the Rite of Reconciliation, during which everyone will have the opportunity of going to Confession. The service ends with an Act of Thanksgiving.

    15 March 2026 – 4th Sunday of Lent, Year A

    March 15 2026
    Thara Benedicta
Key Message: Your Story is for God's Glory!! Homily: A girl was wearing sunglasses even in cold weather. When her friend enquired why, the girl replied, "Since I do not have good looks, people tend to avoid me. But when I wear this costly sunglass, people speak with me without any sign of hesitation". Have you ever felt left out because of your appearance or status? Have you ever felt unwanted by people? David was also of the same status. His own father ignored him and did not even call him to be there, when the Prophet Samuel asked Jesse to bring all his sons. None of his other sons thought about this shepherd brother. David also knew that no one wanted him. He was ignored by everyone. But instead of spending his time worrying about his pitiful situation, he spent his time happily praising God. He spent his entire day praising God with his harp. God was enjoying His songs. He filled His entire day by communicating with God. God loved Him and He loved God. They both were sufficient for each other. When you feel rejected, spend your time with Jesus, who is always longing to spend time with you. When the shepherd boy David became King David, he still had the same relationship with God. Now he is not ignored but he is respected by his whole kingdom. Still, he reciprocates the same feelings he had as a shepherd boy, “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.” Saint Paul invites us to have the same relationship with our Lord Jesus, who is the light of the world Light reveals what darkness hides. When we are in light, we will know what is correct and wrong. With Jesus as our light, we will have clarity in our thoughts and the next steps to be taken. He will guide you where you need to go. This leads us to the Gospel. Jesus meets a man who has been blind since birth. The disciples immediately start asking theological questions: “Who sinned?” They root cause every suffering to a sin. But Jesus gives a new perspective. This suffering is for the glory of God. So when others despise you that you are suffering because of your past sins, you can confidently say, "My story is for God's glory to be revealed". Then our Lord Jesus does something unusual. He makes mud, puts it on the man’s eyes, and tells him to wash in the pool of Siloam. The man obeys, washes, and suddenly he can see. Our Lord Jesus can do a miracle not in the way we expect, it can be in a total different way. After the miracle, our Lord always asks us to wash our wastes. After raising Lazarus up, our Lord asked them to unwind Lazarus from his grave clothes. Here the blind person had to wash his eyes to see. So after our Lord Jesus performs a miracle, we have to do our simple part to actually experience the miracle. What to do after the miracle? That our Lord Jesus Christ will reveal. He will not expect us to do something that He has not told us to do. So the message will reach us somehow. It can be even as a thought. But the real miracle in this story is not only physical sight, it is spiritual sight. As the story unfolds, the blind man begins to see more clearly who Jesus is. At first he says, “The man called Jesus healed me.” Then he says, “He is a prophet.” Finally, when Jesus meets him again, the man says, “Lord, I believe.” Meanwhile, the Pharisees who think they see everything clearly refuse to believe. They question, argue, and reject the truth standing right in front of them. And Jesus says something striking: “Those who do not see may see, and those who think they see may become blind.” In other words, the greatest blindness is not in the eyes, it is in the heart. The parents of the blind persons were also afraid. They could have told the same words that their son had told. But they refused to proclaim the great miracle for their son. When our Lord Jesus came to know that the once upon blind person was driven out, our Lord went in search of him. He spoke with him, revealed that it God Himself speaking to him and opened his spiritual eyes too. So do not allow fear to keep you away from experiencing God's Blessings!!

Synod Report (and reactions): On women’s participation in the life and leadership of the Church

    March 12 2026
    Colm Holmes
WE ARE CHURCH Press Release 14 March 2026: PATRIARCHY Rules! We Are Church International is very disappointed with the Final Report for Study Group 5 on Women which confirms that the Patriarchy has one clear priority: NO ORDINATION FOR WOMEN. Their fear of schism means discrimination against women will continue and we will lose even more women and their gifts from our church! The long report for Study Group 5 makes no reference to any of the many women who have been serving parish communities without priests as ‘Pastoral Assistants’, or those women with vocations to ordination who have been seeking equality for more than 50 years. We call on Pope Leo XlV to promote the ordination of women as it is a scandal for our Church to treat women as inferior and subordinate to men, when Jesus continuously broke the law to free women from those oppressive laws. The patriarchal Church structures around the world have led to the physical, sexual and spiritual abuse of women. Our church urgently needs to ensure that all ministries and offices are based on the common dignity of baptism, personal competence and charisms. We Are Church International will continue to work and pray for the full equality of women in our communities at grassroots levels where real reforms are taking place. Synod Report (and reactions): On women’s participation in the life and leadership of the Church

    March 12 2026

FutureChurch welcomes many of the report’s findings—especially its affirmation of the gifts, talents, and wisdom women already bring to the life of the Church and the world. 🟣 At the same time, we recognize that the road to equity must include real engagement with the question of ordination and with the ways patriarchy remains embedded in the very fabric of the Church’s hierarchical structures. Roy Donovan ACP Leadership Team responds to Bishop Coll on Synodality…

    March 4 2026
    Paddy Ferry
I wondered @22 above if John Dominic Crossan is still with us. Well, he obviously is. I found this below in Commonweal drawing our attention to a new book he has co-authored on his favourite subject, Jesus. This is an advertisement. Commonweal partners with advertisers to bring you information that may be of interest. Our advertisers help support our publishing mission. Organizing for God’s reign on earth then and now Jesus and Justice presents the life of the historical Jesus as a bold and transformative call to action, inviting readers to actively follow his nonviolent and revolutionary example. Grounded in rigorous historical analysis, the authors show how Jesus organized a grassroots movement of poor and marginalized peasants to confront the Roman Empire’s economic, political, and ideological domination—an imperial system with striking parallels to today’s corporate-driven global order. The book reveals Jesus’s message as a radically anti-imperial vision of God’s Reign: a collaborative, egalitarian and justice-centered alternative to systems built on scarcity and oppression. Drawing connections to modern movements led by figures like Martin Luther King Jr., Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez, Crossan and Okinczyc-Cruz offer a powerful spiritual and theological framework for confronting contemporary injustice. Jesus and Justice challenges readers to embrace Jesus’s original revolutionary program of love, mercy and nonviolent action and equips them to respond to God’s call for participatory protagonism through committed, organized action for God’s Reign on Earth.
