    04 Jan 2026 – 2nd Sunday after Christmas

    January 4 2026
    Thara Benedicta
Key Message: Believe your Baby Jesus!! Homily: In a toddler's class: Teacher: Why did God become a little baby? Child: God became little because He wanted to be with His little children. This child's words have packaged the basic truth in a simple sentence. God willingly came to the world to be with us out of His own will. All the three readings of today share the same Good News!! God wishes His children to be wise: In the first reading from Sirach, Wisdom speaks almost like a living person. Wisdom tells us that she was created before all ages and then given a place to dwell among God’s people. God says, “Make your dwelling in Jacob.” In other words, God did not keep His wisdom far away in heaven. He planted it among His people. He wanted His people to live guided, protected, and nourished by His wisdom. That already prepares us for what the Gospel will proclaim so boldly: the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. God did not send us a message and stay distant. He sent His very self. The psalm repeats, “The Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us.” That word “dwelt” is important. It means He made His home with us. God is not a visitor who comes only on holy days. He is a God who settles in, who strengthens our gates, who feeds us with the finest wheat, who speaks His word into our daily lives. In the second reading, Saint Paul takes this even further and tells us something astonishing. He says we are not just followers, not just servants, not even just believers. We are adopted children of God. Before the foundation of the world, God already chose us in Christ. That means you are not an afterthought. You are not a mistake. You are carefully picked up from a big lot. You are chosen lovingly by God. Many people struggle with feelings of unworthiness. They think, “I have failed too much,” or “I am not spiritual enough,” or “Others seem closer to God than I am.” But you are God's chosen one. Can a father ignore his child because of his child's mistakes? Has our Lord Jesus Christ ignored any sinner? He forgave those who crucified Him on the cross, even before they could ask for forgiveness. Have you ever thought, why did our Lord Jesus leave His big beautiful Heaven and came down to a manger? It was only for us. We are priceless to our Lord. Whether you are a sinner or a saint, He loves you more than Himself. The Gospel of John brings all of this together. The eternal Word, through whom all things were made, entered our darkness. Even when the world did not recognize Him, even when His own did not accept Him, He did not withdraw. Instead, He gave power to all who receive Him to become children of God. Notice that word “power.” It is not just a title. It is a new way of living. You are not trying to earn God’s love. You are living from it. You are not defined by your past or your weaknesses. You are defined by your relationship with Him. He has already stepped into our mess. He understands your pain, your questions, your fears and your failures. So do not keep yourself far away from Him because of the state of your soul. So all that is required to be children of our Almighty Father - "Believe in His Son, our Lord Jesus." Whether you are lying down in a manger or suffering on a cross, He will come and meet you there.
