    11 Oct 2026 – 28th Sunday, (A)

    October 11 2026
    Thara Benedicta
Key Message: Are we getting ready for Heaven? Homily: I thought I would use an imagination story since in reality we do not forget any wedding invitation on earth... or atleast it's rare! Imagine a family receives an invitation to an important wedding several weeks in advance. Everyone is excited. The invitation is placed carefully on the refrigerator. But life becomes busy. Work. School. Shopping. Children's activities. Appointments. Weekends come and go. Then one Saturday afternoon the husband suddenly looks at the invitation and shouts: “The wedding is TODAY!” Suddenly the whole house becomes a place of miracles! “Where is my suit?” “Who moved my shoes?” “Your shirt is not ironed!” “Why didn't you remind me?” And, of course, everyone remembers reminding everyone else! They knew about the wedding, had the invitation. They intended to go. But they were not ready. And perhaps that is a simple picture of our spiritual life. We know that one day we will meet our Lord Jesus Christ... We know that this earthly life will not last forever. We know that heaven is our final home. But because life becomes busy, we can keep postponing the most important preparation of all. In today's Gospel our loving Lord Jesus is asking us, “The wedding banquet is coming. Are you getting ready?” Too Busy for God? In today’s Gospel, some of the guests do not come. One goes to his farm and another to his business. Notice that they are not necessarily doing terrible things. They are simply too occupied with ordinary life to recognize what really matters. Sometimes the greatest danger to our spiritual life is not that we reject God; we simply become too busy for God. Work, children, appointments, shopping, emails, social media and entertainment can fill our lives completely. We can spend twenty minutes deciding what to watch on Netflix and then say, “I don't have ten minutes to pray!” Imagine if Heaven sent us a weekly report: Prayer: 20 minutes. Worrying: 5 hours. Complaining: 3 hours. WhatsApp: confidential! Our Jesus is asking us, “Have the things of this world become so important that you are forgetting eternity?” What is the Wedding Garment? Then comes the most challenging part of the Gospel. The king notices a man without a wedding garment. Jesus is not giving us a lesson about clothing. The wedding garment represents the kind of person we are becoming as we prepare for God's Kingdom. It represents the state of our soul. There is a beautiful connection with our Baptism. At Baptism we were clothed with a white garment, a sign that we have been clothed in Christ. From that moment, our Christian life becomes a lifelong journey of allowing Jesus to transform us. The question is not simply, “Am I baptized?” but “Is my Baptism visible in the way I live?” What does our wedding garment look like? It is woven with mercy, forgiveness, compassion, honesty, repentance, purity of heart, generosity and love. In other words, the wedding garment is Christ becoming visible in us. Jesus receives us as we are, but He loves us too much to leave us as we are. Is My Faith Changing My Life? We may say, “I am baptized. I attend Mass. I receive Communion.” These are tremendous gifts. But Jesus asks, “Is My grace changing your life?” If I receive Jesus on Sunday but refuse to forgive on Monday, something is missing. If I pray every day but constantly gossip about others, something is missing. If I say, “Lord, have mercy,” but refuse mercy to my own family, something is missing. Our faith must move from the church into our everyday life. Stitches in our Wedding Garment: Most of us will prepare for heaven not through extraordinary achievements, but through ordinary acts of love. Every time we forgive someone, control our tongue instead of gossiping, patiently care for our family, apologize when we are wrong, help someone who cannot repay us, or pray for someone who has hurt us, another stitch is being added to our wedding garment. We do not earn heaven through these actions; everything begins with God's grace. But when we cooperate with grace, our lives gradually begin to look more like Jesus. What If the garment becomes stained? What happens when we sin? This is where the beauty of God's mercy appears. Our Jesus has given us the Sacrament of Reconciliation. He does not say, “You failed; you are finished.” He calls us to repentance. We confess, receive His mercy, get up and begin again. Never allow your sins to make you run away from our Jesus; run towards our Jesus. If Jesus Called Me Tonight: Imagine our Jesus told us after Mass, “Tonight I am taking you home.” Would there be someone we would immediately call? Someone we need to forgive? Someone to whom we need to say, “I'm sorry”? Would we finally go to Confession? Would an argument that seemed enormous yesterday suddenly become very small? If knowing that we would meet Jesus tonight would change the way we live today, why not begin changing today? Prepare for Heaven Today: Even if God gives us 80 years... 90 years... or even 100 years on this earth... compared with eternity, our earthly life is very short. We prepare for Heaven by the way we live today. It's all the time we have got!! So love while you have time to love. Forgive while you have time to forgive. Pray while you have time to pray. Serve while you have time to serve. Say “I'm sorry” while you have time to say it. Tell people you love them while they can still hear you. Lets live today so that we don’t regret later!!

Colm Holmes, We Are Chrch International: No Support for Women Priests at National Assembly

    October 3 2026
    Maeve Walsh
Thanks to ACP and Colm Holmes of WAC International for once again keeping us abreast of the Working Document for the Irish National Synodal Assembly. It is so disappointing that after all the work that has gone into making recommendations for reforms in our church that the important issues of equality for men and woman, optional celibacy, ordination of married men to the priesthood, ordination for women to the deaconate and priesthood have been dropped from discussion at the Synodal Assembly on 17th October 2026 in Gormanston, County Meath. Is not equality for all the baptised people of God given to us? Jesus' last words on the cross were 'It is Accomplished' - the 'It' is Redemption and we are a redeemed People of God. The Risen Lord is incarnate in us and we are incarnate in Christ! What a wondrous blessing, so what is all the arguing and rivalling about? There is a shortage of vocations to the ordained priesthood today with an abundance of holy men and women blocked from fulfilling their divine calling to serve God in the poor and lonely people who have multiple charisms of the Holy Spirit, for whom the doors of the church are closed. Please let us respect each ones dignity and calling.

Remembering Ludmila Javorová ‘A Priest Forever’ – Catholic Campaigners Call On Pope Leo to Recognise Her Priesthood

    October 7 2026
    Soline Humbert
Ignore her! "In 1983, Javorová appealed to Pope John Paul II about her case. She did not receive a reply. In 1996, she was officially told she was forbidden to exercise her priestly ordination because her ordination was viewed to be invalid according to canon law solely because she was a woman. The institutional Church continues to ignore her." This same policy of ignoring women's presbyteral vocations continues, including in the Working Document for the 17th October Synodal National Assembly here in Ireland. But what comes from the Holy Spirit cannot be stopped.
