Bidding Prayers for 26 February (First Sunday of Lent)

BIDDING PRAYERS for Sunday Mass on 26 February

Introduction (by the Presider)  As we begin the lenten journey, let us remember all those in need:

  1. For Francis our pope and Fintan our bishop, we pray (pause for five seconds). Lord, hear us
  2. For Christians who suffer for their faith, we pray (pause for five seconds). Lord, hear us.
  3. For peace in Ukraine and in South Sudan, we pray (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us.
  4. For those homeless after the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, we pray (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us
  5. For the hungry and poor people of our world, we pray (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us.
  6. For a spirit of penance as we begin Lent, we pray (pause for five seconds). Lord hear us.

The Presider prays for the dead: For those who have died (especially N.& N. who died recently and N. & N. whose anniversaries occur), that God may reward their faithfulness (pause for quiet prayer)  Lord, hear us.

Conclusion (by the Presider)  O God, you understand our weakness, you know our needs: Give us the joy of your help, we beseech you, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
