    2 August 2026 – 18th Sunday, (A)

    August 2 2026
    Thara Benendicta
Key Message: When the heart says 'Jesus is all I need', then 'Jesus satisfies all my needs'!!! Homily: Testimony: "A girl who got great scores in Engineering had good job offers in IT industry with soaring pay packages. She despised them and joined as a lecturer where the pay package was very minimal to the other high paying jobs in IT. When checked why she chose to take this career path, she replied, "I see my sister and brother-in-law's life and also many who are in the IT industry. They completely focus only on their job. They do not have time for anything else. I do not want to chase only after money in my life. My life will become fruitless. I want to serve my Jesus. I want to spend my time teaching about Him and His love, and to serve Him in all that I can. I call him my "Elshaddai". My Father knows what I need more than me. He will take care of me. There is no need for me to worry about me". In today's Gospel reading, we read about how our Lord Jesus Christ was moved with pity and changed His plans. When our Lord saw that His own children were longing for Him, nothing could stop Him. Our Lord was tired, exhausted. But He was still moved. In all the Bible stories, have you ever heard of a scenario where people who came to our Lord Jesus returned back empty? When we go to our Lord, He takes us as His responsibility. Our Lord not only satisfies us but fills us in an overflowing way as He does in today's Gospel. Let us look at the life of William Colgate, founder of Colgate is a great testimony... As a 16-year-old William Colgate left his home for New York City with very little money. From the very first dollar he earned, he set aside 10 cents (10%) for the Lord's work. As he grew he instructed his bookkeeper to open an "Account with the Lord" as a permanent line item. When the business grew rapidly and became wildly successful, William kept his promise by increasing his giving. He raised his giving from 10% to 20%, then 30%, 40%, 50%, and eventually gave away even more of his income. An executive remarked, "I am a great witness for 'Seek First the Kingdom of God, the rest all will be given unto you'".  Our Lord Jesus likes fulfilling our dreams, desires. Our Lord works over time for this... as we see in today's reading... He changed His big resting plan and started fulfilling His people's wants. We can go to Him as an empty jar during the wedding of Canaan or the twelve empty baskets in today's reading, our Lord will happily fulfil us. We go weary of waiting and think our Lord is not answering our prayers. The 6 jars and 12 baskets were also waiting for their time to come. When Jesus comes, blessings will also come. Another beautiful teaching our Lord gives us... He took the five loaves and two fish in His Hands and offered it to our Almighty Father!!! So whatever little things we put in the hands of our Lord Jesus, our Lord faithfully takes it and offers it to our Almighty Father on our behalf. Our Lord did not miss even one loaf of bread. He held all the 5 loaves of bread and two fishes and offered it our Almighty Father. Our Father lovingly takes them and blesses them. There is nothing too little that we can offer to our Father. Whatever that is small in your eyes, is a precious gift from us to our Father. It can be time or talents or anything that can do. Any offering sealed with thanks from your loving heart, is a big gift for our Lord!!! Quick Resolutions - Think about one quick offering that you can do daily... Can be an offering of Thanks too (which we tend to miss ) As the Gospel says "all were satisfied", our Lord Jesus will satisfy your inner longings!!!

Tony Flannery: What direction is Pope Leo leading the Church?

    July 29 2026
    Helen Oxenburgh-Lowe
Well said Tony. I think that Leo wants to stay with the old way of being Church - but the 21st century is no way like the 20th, so he had better catch up!!

Tony Flannery: What direction is Pope Leo leading the Church?

    July 29 2026
    Brendan Cafferty
Good, timely, by Fr Tony, I agree Leo wants to maintain unity and in doing so he won't rock any boats, his appointment of Opus Dei and a hard-line archbishop does not augur well. Tony's point about letting various regions move at their own pace is novel and good, we will never have total agreement.
